Jackson Meadow
Minnesota
Summary
Natural Systems Utilities (NSU) provides full-service management of the Jackson Meadow wastewater treatment system, ensuring reliable performance and environmental stewardship. Our team monitors the gravity collection system to maintain proper flow to the treatment site and routinely tracks solids levels in septic tanks, coordinating pumping as needed to optimize system efficiency.
With strong backgrounds in biology and chemistry, NSU operators interpret analytical sampling data to evaluate treatment performance and make informed process adjustments. In addition, we handle all regulatory reporting and communication with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, ensuring full compliance with state requirements.
Our operations reflect the environmentally conscious vision of the Jackson Meadow developer and community, delivering sustainable, science-based solutions that support long-term resource protection.
Challenge
Jackson Meadow is a thoughtfully designed cluster development nestled in Marine on St. Croix, MN, overlooking the scenic St. Croix River Valley. By concentrating all 60 homes on just 40 acres, the project preserves over 70% of the surrounding land—nearly 300 acres of natural prairie and open space protected through conservation easements.
The primary challenge was delivering effective onsite wastewater treatment for this tightly clustered community without compromising the delicate natural prairie habitat. The developer needed a solution that would support sustainable growth while respecting and preserving the expansive open space and sensitive ecosystem that defines Jackson Meadow.
Solution
To address the challenge, two horizontal subsurface flow constructed wetlands were installed to pretreat domestic wastewater before final disposal. These natural treatment systems efficiently and effectively treat wastewater while maintaining the development’s aesthetic appeal and protecting the surrounding prairie habitat.
Natural Systems Utilities (NSU) provides a dedicated operational team to manage the entire wastewater treatment system, focusing on delivering reliable onsite treatment that supports the cluster community’s needs without compromising the preservation of the natural environment.
