HILLSBOROUGH, N.J., Dec. 03, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Natural Systems Utilities (“NSU”) announced today the successful completion of the acquisition of the Acqualogic/Kanso (“Kanso”) water and wastewater operations and maintenance services. Kanso currently manages 28 on-site water and wastewater systems in the San Francisco Bay Area. The company has a proven track record of providing safe and reliable operations services and has an outstanding reputation with its clients and regulatory agencies. NSU assumed all of Kanso’s operations and maintenance contracts and business operations.
NSU now operates over 270 on-site, community systems across 10 states, including the largest base of distributed reuse and natural treatment systems in the country. PSI is located in the San Francisco Bay Area and manages 25 on-site water and wastewater systems within a 100-mile radius of Napa. NSU will assume all of the PSI contracts and business operations.

Natural Systems Utilities, Middlesex Water, and Village of Ridgewood Receive Environmental Achievement Award
PRESS RELEASE (Hillsborough, NJ — November 13, 2012) Middlesex Water Company and Natural Systems Utilities reported their unique public private partnership with the Village of Ridgewood, N.J. — named Ridgewood Green LLC –has earned an Environmental Achievement Award from PlanSmart NJ.
The PlanSmart NJ award recognizes Ridgewood Green LLC’s unique, sustainable approach under which a portion of the Village of Ridgewood’s wastewater treatment plant will be retrofitted to create electric energy from the wastewater treatment process. Middlesex Water and Natural Systems Utilities, in a 20-year public-private partnership with the Village of Ridgewood, are making the capital investment to enable the plant to use an anaerobic digestion process to convert methane gas to electricity.
This project also includes the conversion of a chemical disinfection system to one that uses ultraviolet light to treat the wastewater effluent, thereby reducing chemical consumption. Installation of solar generation will further supplement the plant’s electricity needs. In addition, food wastes from local sources will help to act as an accelerant to the anaerobic digestion process, further enhancing the production of electricity. “This project clearly demonstrates how our aging infrastructure can be reinvigorated and repurposed in a way that saves money while improving environmental protection,” said Edward A. Clerico, President and COO of Natural Systems Utilities, LLC. “In this case, we are producing renewable energy from wastes by upgrading existing wastewater facilities and capturing solar energy on available utility property. It is a win-win-win for the residents of Ridgewood, the environment and our investors,” he added.
The Village of Ridgewood’s wastewater treatment plant is expected to be fully energy self-sufficient with no need to purchase electricity from local sources on a sustained basis, enabling it to benefit from below-market prices for electric power over the term of the partnership. Ridgewood Green, the entity created to design, build and own the newly-constructed plant additions, will oversee the operation of these facilities by Village of Ridgewood public works employees.
“This innovative approach to energy capture provides a big win for the environment that improves air quality, reduces dependence on chemicals, lowers energy costs and reduces residuals involved in wastewater treatment,” said Chris Rutishauser, P.E., Director of Public Works/Village Engineer for the Village of Ridgewood. “This sustainable solution can be replicated by other publicly-owned wastewater facilities that are seriously focused on reducing their overall carbon footprint and reducing costs. I believe that the success of our public/private partnership creating sustainable energy can be a model for other small wastewater treatment plants throughout the country,” he added.

Natural Systems Utilities Acquires Applied Water Management and Completes Series C Financing
PRESS RELEASE (Hillsborough, NJ — January 19, 2012) Natural Systems Utilities (NSU) announced today the successful completion of the acquisition of Applied Water Management (AWM) from AWM’s parent company American Water. Applied Water Management, also based in Hillsborough, NJ, has 77 employees and has offices in NJ, PA, and MA. NSU will assume all AWM contracts and business operations. AWM is a recognized leader in water resource management. Combined, the Company provides design, build, operations and engineering services to over 150 systems in NJ, NY, PA, CT, MA, RI, and MN.
The Company will be known as Natural Systems Utilities and will operate under both the NSU and AWM names. Natural Systems Utilities and Middlesex Water Company Announce Joint Venture to Serve Village of Ridgewood, NJ

Natural Systems Utilities and Middlesex Water Company (NASDAQ:MSEX) yesterday announced the formation of a joint venture, Ridgewood Green RME, LLC, (Ridgewood Green) and the signing of a 20-year public-private partnership with the Village of Ridgewood, NJ whereby Ridgewood Green will design, build, own and operate facilities to optimize the production of electricity at Ridgewood’s municipal wastewater treatment plant. Ridgewood Green will work to optimize the treatment process through the conversion of biogas at the plant to electricity via anaerobic digestion, installation of solar arrays to produce additional electricity and the addition of ultraviolet light for wastewater disinfection. Renewable energy is expected to provide all the electricity required to operate the wastewater treatment plant. In addition, the joint venture has partnered with Bio-Organic Catalyst, LLC (BOC) to provide a very effective organic product to enhance production of biogas as well as reduce odors and grease build-up at the plant. Further value is expected to be derived from a reduction in the amount of residuals, which are a byproduct of the treatment process that will no longer need to be transported off site.
